I managed to pick up a copy of Silo a year ago. I am very happy with the return on my investment.
This modeler is easy to use, and the toolset is extremely robust when you take the price into account. If you think you
might be interested in Silo, give the free demo version a go. The demo is a great way to get exposed to the software and see
how it runs on your system. The Silo community is very friendly and eager to
help new users.
Now that XSI is part of the Autodesk family you has to wait and see if things work out for the better.
I am still using my Foundation 6.0 version, and I am very happy with it. Thanks Ryan!
The one cool thing from the aquisition by Autodesk so far is that they made CAT available in 3DS Max 2009
to the subcription folks.
3D Studio Max is my bread-and-butter. I have been a user of 3D Studio when it was still running under DOS.
Every game company that I worked for has been a Max shop to some degree. Currently, I am working on getting MaxScript under my belt.
I saw a video online regarding the new tools for Max 2010. They are adding some
very cool modeling tools .
I will add some more links here in the next few weeks... or maybe in a few months. I tell you, that procrastination is the devil.
